According to Hong Kong's Census and Statistics
Department, this was an increase by 118,904 kg from 2010 despite a sharp
dip in gold flow last December.

In December last year, only 38,605 kg of gold were exported to Mainland China, dip by 62 percent, the Department said.
China remained woirld's largest gold p[roducer with 360.95 tons last year. The Dragon nation also became world's largest gold jewellery market in the third quarter of 2011 as its consumption rose 13 per cent, year on year to 131 tonnes.
Gold demand in China is predicted to increase in 2012 as the Chinese Year of the Dragon is considered a particularly auspicious time to hand out gifts.
According to reports, sales of gold, silver and jewelry over the recent Chinese New Year holiday had risen 57.6 per cent.
